These tufa towers are calcium-carbonate spires created by the mixture of fresh water springs and the alkalike waters of Mono Lake. While Mono Lake is most synonymous with the tufas, the alkaline lake, a sister to the Great Salt Lake, is incredibly reflective, making it a great location for colorful sunsets like this one.
