Ruth Glacier is over a mile wide and ten miles long, buttressed by one mile high granite cliffs in the "Great Gorge" of Denali National Park. Flying out of Talkeetna, our destination was supposed to be Denali itself, but the heavy cloud cover made flying to the tallest mountain in the United States impossible. Instead, we flew over and around the great Ruth Glacier. The weather and our new flight plan worked in my favor ; the heavy cloud cover allowed the blues of the glacier and water pools to pop against the white of the snow cover.
